I generally agree with that. In the last 12 months, I've been to UK, Japan, Canada. In the UK I really noticed the decay - from social decay to physical decay. Like not much had changed in 20 years and had been left to deteriorate. Signs of vandalism and boarded up windows where they'd been broken. In Canada I noticed a bit similar, problems with access to universal health care, homelessness, druggies, random violence. Smaller towns have no real core businesses - instead fast food joints dominate. Again homelessness, petty crime and violence. General frustration that standards of living have slipped badly. In Japan, harder to say. The rat race continues there, but finally coming out of decades of deflation.
