Thai Television News

Featured Replies

for as long as I can remember thai television particular their news stations, sports and other programmes, are full on in thai language. and even running along the bottom of the news is still in thai. I believe most farangs would love to understand what is going on, on these stations. Why could not the story presented by the thai newsreaders be written in english below. Love to have your comments :D:o

If you have UBC you are able to watch the Thai News in English. From memory the evening news between 1715-1815 hours on Thai Channel 3, there is a button on the right handside of the remote (the third one down from the top) that allows you to swap between English and Thai audio.

You are absolutely right about UBC having an English translation of the Thai Channel Three News at about 1715 hours. Its Monday to Fridays only and despite the service having been running some time, the translators do not seem to have got much better. I would give them a generous five out of ten.

yes that is correct, but thre are many thai channels that give news thru the day not at any special time, and one must remember not all have ubc :o:D

I rarely watch it, but channel 11 have a nightly English news programme - it is quite long and comprehensive, with mostly good English speaking presenters. Not sure of the time, but it's around 9 - 10 pm.

I get all my "Thai" news from the Bangkok Post and Nation - very comprehensive, and probably more detailed 'serious' Thai news than most TV stations put out - certainly during the recent political crisis. They have more freedom than TV and radio, as the masses don't read English newspapers.

Fm 107 and maybe some other radio stations broacast Radio Thailand news in English at 7 a.m, and the MCOT website also contains a lot of Thai news in English.

Then there's TNA.....etc

Spoilt for choice really :o

chatters, reverse the premise and that is the same as suggesting a Thai living in London would like to see Thai subtitles for the UK news or programming. It is just not going to happen.

I too would love to see more English audio and subtitles as you suggest but I think Taksin has more chance of winning the next election. Who would have thought that a few months ago... :o

You don't need UBC to listen to the "poor" English language version of Channel 3 evening news. Most modern TV sets have a dual language facility, you select language II and it changes from Thai to English. This is also good for watching football on Thai TV as the English commentary is often available on this second audio channel.

Does this work if you are recieving the Thai channels through Banglamung or Sophon cable?
