Khao Soy

Featured Replies

Was just reading a pattaya thread about where is the best Khao Soy place.

I know there are a bunch of them in CR but wonder what are some of CR thai visa members favorites spots?

.And yes i know full of coconut milk and maybe not so healthy but boy can a good Khao soy hit the spot every now and then.

Recommendations with basic directions appreciated.

I am a Kaow Soi lover. To my disappointment however, when we were in CR recently and wanted it, my wife (A CM native) very firmly said "This is a Chiangmai food. If it can be found in CR (doubtful) it would be no good!" True enough it was nowhere to be found - where we looked anyway.

I hope you are wrong, I would love to find a Kao Soi shop in CR. But I can't remember ever seeing one. Hopefully one of the townies will know a spot.

OP, what is unhealthy about coconut milk?

NAT's BISTRO at rear entrance to Anusarn Market in Chiang Mai sells a delicious Khao Soy made from old traditional Chiang Mai recipe..worth trying..aroi mak mak.

loads of kao soy shops around,,jetyod road behind the wangcome is good in town, then out of town many sheds do good ones,1 past the car license place about 300 meters on the right is good then bandu market has some, our village payang luang has a good one.

There's a pretty good one close to the Dusit Island Hotel.

going from clock tower headed towards den ha on the right before 7 11 and semi near/across from the big high school are two or three spots with not bad Khao Soy....walking distance from clock tower....

got to be a lot of them scattered around CR i think.....CR high school has a big vat of khao soy everyday in the school cafeteria...not greatest quality but for 25 baht hard to complain....

pure coconut milk is very high incalories and fat, with an especially high number of saturated fat grams,

i think the food police just monitor my emails and the minute i say i like something out comes a report telling me how bad it is for me...on the other hand the diet my grandmother ate would for sure send the unhealthy needle off the charts...but she never knew it and just ate what she wanted anyway and lived to be near 90.....

i don't eat it every day ...maybe once a week ...sure does taste good to me.

I can personally guarantee Nat's bistro, good reasonably priced food and nice coffee as well.

As mentioned in #5, I too have tried the Khao Soi from a kitchen along Jed Yod Rd, almost opposite the Wancome Hotel.

It is the best I've had in Chiang Rai, however not quite the flavor of "Khao Soi Masai" a shop close to where I live in Chiang Mai.

In saying that, its close enough to fulfill your occasional craving................

Best khao Soy I ever had was on the Doi Tung market a week ago. Absolutely delicious with a touch of Indian chutney in it.
