Will Immigration Offices be Open on December 30?

Featured Replies

In Chiang Mai, they say you can do a retirement extension up to 45 days early. My retirement extension expires on Feb. 13, 2016. I count Day 45 to be December 30, 2015. Am I correct? Will the Immigration offices be open on that date?

They will be open on the 30th but closed on the 31st and 1st.

I think I would watt until the 5th or 6th. The last day before a 4 day closure would not be a good day to go.

Will I be EXACTLY on Day 45 on December 30?

Surprisingly, in tabulating the reports I receive about the queues at CM Imm, often Mondays and Fridays can be surprisingly good for the retirement extension queue, maybe because people think it's going to be so bad, so they don't go on those days. That's what I'm hoping may happen on December 30.

Of course, the tourist ext. queue will be hopeless, but that's not my concern.

Subtracting 45 days from 13 Feb 2016 using Excel, I get 30 Dec 2015. Whether or not immigrations counts days the same way Microsoft does, I couldn't say.

If 13 February is Day 45 then 30 December is 46 days prior, no? (13 days in Feb + 31 days in Jan + 2 days in Dec = 46 days)

Will Immigration accept Black and white photocopies of my passport for a retirement visa extension? up to now I have given them colour photocopies, thanks

Considering the copies they make for you AT Immigration are b/w I will go with a yes on this.

I think most people give them black and white copies so they certainly do accept them.

Some offices have been reported as not accepting color copies.

Just asklng:

do you have a specific reason for the rush? Travel plans?

Is it undisputed that 45 days is OK (without having a good excuse/travel plan)?

Dec 30 to Feb 13 is 46 days if they apply their usual count (due date included not 45 days before).

2 days in Dec

31 days in Jan

13 days in Feb

-------------------

46

I wouldn't try it on Dec 30 without urgent reason.

Traffic will also be quite heavy.

Color copies: heard similar "rumors" that some don't like color copies (Khon Kaen accepts).

The copies been done at the offices are always B/W.

A lot of years ago I produced colour photo copies to Imo

They all laughed and said I was doing forging.

I have never done it again.

Go for it Nancy. You will, of course, have a legitimate reason to be there, even if it is casued by you counting days differently to them.

Win, win.
