wiring in a new kitchen cooking hob, wire colours

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have bought a new cooking hob for my kitchen which I would like to wire in myself (done this sort of job many times in the UK with no issues), but I am confused by the wire colours.

The old hob had a black, green and white wire, however the new hob has a blue, green and brown wire.

Please could anyone give any advise on the wiring colours for live, neutral and earth for electical items such as this bought in Thailand.

Many thanks

Many thanks for the quick reply...that anwsers my question regarding the new hob, however the old one has:

The old hob is about about 6 years old, any idea?

As always, verify your actual wiring before installing.

The house I live is wired color-reversed. So when I make any additions or repairs I have to follow the same reversal.

In my case it really only makes a difference on what line gets wired through a switch (I always test which is Live/Hot).

Drives me batty, but to undo what I see as a wrong color issue would require undoing/redoing about 28+ Thai-style wire twists behind nailed wooden boxes.

Amen brother. In my single phase Bangkok home a variety of colors were used. Sometimes Black for Live, White for Neutral, and Green for Ground. But in other parts of the house you see blue and yellow wires in use. So I always use my voltmeter to determine which wire is what.

Hi

Just to clarify I understand that sometimes the actual condo wire colours could be wrong so I took my guide from the colours of the old hob wire that was working OK before and with many thanks to 'Pomthai' my new hob is wired in and working perfectly.

Wired it with solderless connectors in a junction box, not just wires loose and twisted and taped together under the kitchen unit like before 555

thanks for all the advice.
