Kawasaki 250 D-Tracker Advice

Hi Everyone,

I have a few questions & would be grateful if anyone can give my some advice, I've been changing the oil & oil filter on my 2010 D-Tracker every 6000klm (advised by Dealer) the bike had 10,000 klm when I bought it & is now reaching 40,000, was wondering whether I should do it more frequently say 4,0000klm ?

The oil I've been using has been a mixture of fully synthetic, semi synthetic & have now started to use Shell Advance AX7 Synthetic Based which ive read good reviews & is reasonably priced, is this oil good enough? I don't work the engine hard & only do the odd long journey from Krabi to satun & back for visa runs.....

Just one more thing, I've read that the valves should be checked, adjusted, etc (probably long overdue) apart from the engine being a little rattily which it has always been like, it runs fine, starts first time & doesn't burn oil, should I be worried about the engine being checked as I'm reluctant to let someone strip it down as I've had a few problems in the past....

Thanks In Advance....

Baz

I don't know anything about a bucket and shim DOHC KLX motor, but i'd be having the cam cover off every 20k kms minimum, checking valve clearances.

Re oil changes, all engines, regardless of motorcycle, car, truck, bus or tractor. If you can afford it, change it always earlier than recommended, your engine will love you for it...
