No police investigating trafficking of Rohingya threat

BANGKOK:-- A police investigation has found no evidence of intimidation against investigators working on the probe into the trafficking of Rohingya boat people.

The probe results counter Pol Maj-General Paween Pongsirin's claim that he received death threats and had to seek asylum in Australia for that reason.

Paween, a former deputy chief of Provincial Police Region 8, recently gave up his job after being posted to the far South - a location that he said left him at risk of being killed by influential people, including state officials in the area, linked to trafficking networks.

Deputy National Police chief Pol General Srivara Ransibrahmanakul said the investigation was launched in response to Paween's complaint. He said had not been able to contact Paween either by phone or the LINE app yet.

The investigation team said the probe covered every individual working on the Rohingya case.

I do wish posters would take the time to click on these links. The lack of 'likes' is telling. Most have the attention span of a gnat.

I'm sure more people click on the like, the problem is I believe that Thai visa only allows a maximum numer of likes to show up on ones post.

Wrong. I rarely see more than one or two 'likes' (if any at all), to links on this forum. Unless it concerns visas or bar girls. Sort of shows up their customer base, don't you think.

We are allowed to post the first three sentences and a link to such information. If the poster would just paste in some text to give people an idea of why they should click the link it would help.

Customer base. That would include me? I don't click links like that because too often they are a waste of time.

Cheers.

Little interest as the subject is about Muslims as victims. In previous topics concerning Rohingya the largest number of posts were those vilifying Rohingya and human rights organisations seeking to assist them, with 'likes' from the usual clique of TV members.

"Deputy National Police chief Pol General Srivara Ransibrahmanakul said the investigation was launched in response to Paween's complaint. He said had not been able to contact Paween either by phone or the LINE app yet."

So, without interviewing the main complainant, he's concluded there were no threats.

And yet a reporter in the above linked story has actually spoken to other witnesses that claim intimidation and threats.

You are wrong! I have had some replies with 50 likes yet only 3 showed up for anyone to see. There is a limit for what is diplayed

Wow, what an incredibly fast investigation. So I guess he was just making it up just so he could get into Australia. I, for one, believe what Pol Maj-General Paween Pongsirin's is saying...meaning I don't believe the government with their very speedy investigation.

This man a Police Major General would not flee Thailand if it were not true. He left for his safety because he told the truth. Every one knows of the trafficking but it is so deep that the present Thai Junta Pm does not want to imprison all the guilty parts because of the face Thailand will lose with the rest of the world. You received the second worst ranking from the world. Time to show the world you mean business and arrest the Army, Police and the politicians and quit trying to hide your past sins!

With all the hoop-la about 'honest cop' Paween there is another side to the story, ignored by the local media.

13-10-14

State attorneys refused to take up the case earlier this week, citing insufficient evidence and “flaws” in police’s investigation into the murder of David Miller, 24, and Hannah Witheridge, 23, on Koh Tao island last month.

But today, Pol.Maj.Gen. Paween Pongsirin, deputy commander of Region 8 Police, said the case file is now "perfect."

So this current media darling was heavily involved in stitching up the 2 Burmese scapegoats while ignoring the police involvement with the Ko Tao mafia.

This is not to say that there is no truth in Paween's allegation of receiving threats but 'honest cop' doesn't quite gel.
