NLA fears use of only one ballot may place pressure on voters

BANGKOK, 27 December 2015 (NNT) - The National Legislative Assembly has discussed worries that the use of only one ballot could add pressure on voters.

The NLA committee on political affairs has held a meeting to draw a conclusion on how elections and the public referendum should be organized and regulated.

The meeting was also attended by Election Commission President Supachai Somcharoen and member of the Constitution Drafting Commission, Teerachai Na Nakorn.

The discussion touched on concerns that the use of only one ballot might heighten pressure on voters who have to make a decision about which candidate they will vote for as constituency MP and which will be voted for as party-list MP as well as who will be the Prime Minister.

Concerning the proposal that political parties will have to propose the PM candidate, the NLA believes the possibility of large political parties’ choosing any outsider will be low while the opportunity for small parties to have any party-list MP may not exist at all.

All members of the lower house should be elected. Party list are old cronies or influential persons which have bought their positions. It is just another form of corruption.

Well then, to avoid pressure on voters, perhaps we should stick to not having ballots at all...

Just have a yellow ballot paper for candidates for the Senate and a red ballot paper for the lower house candidates and like everywhere else with democracy the leader of the major party is the voted in PM, similar to the Westminster system sort of, ................................... colour of paper optional.

Actually the colour of the paper is remarkably appropriate, ( maybe that is your intention ), the Senate will as a result of the "reforms" be dominated by "yellow",and the lower house, despite the "reforms" will be controlled by the "reds".

Maybe I am demonstrating an uncanny ability to remark upon the "bleeding obvious"...

In fact world republics use single ballots to cover the election of House, Senate, and President is very common but not very "thainess."

Is that a hint for more votes depending on your education level. Much in syn with Prayuth call for more middle class to cast votes to stop populist parties. Also much in line with the PDRC vision. Down hill we go with this kind of mentality.

Well then, to avoid pressure on voters, perhaps we should stick to not having ballots at all...

I thought they were planning to only give ballot papers to "educated" Bangkok people who are able to handle the pressure of voting for themselves...

In the USA a national popular vote is a precursor to the electoral college vote for the POTUS ONLY.

The Electoral College is made up of 538 electors who cast votes to decide the President and Vice-President of the United States. Voters nationwide choose which candidate receives their state's electors.

Do you not approve of direct voter participation?????
