Border crossing in Kanchanaburi opened after protest ends

KANCHANABURI, 29 December 2015 (NNT) - The Three Pagodas border crossing in Kanchanaburi has been opened after a protest in Myanmar against Thailand near the borders ended. The Thai embassy in Yangon has announced that its consular department will be closed for three days.

According to the embassy, the consular department will be closed from 28 -30 December 2015 since there were still some protesters gathering in front of the embassy.

People who wish to contact the department, especially those who need to travel to Thailand for medical treatments during this period, can contact the department by dialing 09-5090926.

The embassy will also directly contact those who have been scheduled to receive a new passport to inform them of the time and place where they can get their passport.

On Monday morning, more than 300 Myanmar protesters gathered near the Three Pagodas border crossing, demanding that Thailand release two Myanmar men sentenced to a death penalty in the murder case in Koh Tao in Thailand in 2014. The protesters said they would wait for reactions from the Thai government before ending their protest at 12 PM.
