Life Miserable, Help Us: Montagnard Refugees

Eight ethnic Jarai Montagnard Christians who fled alleged persecution in Vietnam and sought refuge in Cambodia are living in poor conditions, one of the refugees told Khmer Times yesterday.

The refugee, who asked to go by the name Lak, said from the guesthouse where the eight men are staying that they have no financial assistance to live on. “We cannot go out because we are afraid the Cambodian authorities will arrest us, so now we’re worried about having money to pay for our guesthouse.”

Mr. Lak said his group has been waiting for a response to an asylum request but has not yet received any results.
