Re Entry permit on a Tourist Visa?

A friend of mine is on a SETV, the first 60 days of which will expire on 14th Jan, he is planning to go to the Andaman club this Tuesday for some R&R, is it possible for him to get a Re Entry permit to keep the tourist Visa valid and then go to Immi on or before the 14th to get his 30 day extension?

I suggest he get the 30 day extension before getting the re-entry permit. It could be done in one trip to immigration.

Nothing is lost by doing the extension early since it will start at the end of his current entry.
