NZ child with Thai parent

Recommended Posts

A child carrying a New Zealand passport is travelling to Thailand with thier parent who is traveling on a Thai passport for a 6 weeks travel. Purpose of travel is holiday.

Does said child need a tourist visa? Or is there exemptions when they are travelling with thier thai parent? Child is under the age of 14 .

The child will get a 30 day visa exempt entry that can be extended for 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht. The airline should allow them to board their flight if traveling with a parent without a ticket out of the country within 30 days.

The child should have a Thai passport. They are Thai from birth.

Oh. So a child can get Thai birth certificate from embassy in New Zealand. He was born in New Zealand

That is where it has to applied for. Only the Thai embassy or consulate in the country where a child is born can issue it.

If child travels with a Thai passport, does that make it difficult for them to reenter new Zealand?

No problem to re-enter NZ.

The child's NZ passport is used to leave and enter NZ and the Thai passport is used to enter and leave Thailand

Wow! I didn't know that was legal.

That is a cool system.
