Mine Kills Farmer in Battambang

One man died and another man in a nearby field was injured after an anti-tank mine exploded as a tractor plowing a cassava field drove over it in Battambang province’s Sampov Loun district.

Pich Saren, Sampov Loun district police chief, said yesterday that the farmer died because the tractor drove directly onto the mine.

The tractor itself was completely destroyed, and the man died instantly after the explosion on Friday morning.

“The mine exploded, causing the tractor and the driver to fly 15 meters away and shrapnel shot into another farmer who was picking cassavas in the same field. He was slightly injured,” he said.
