Business Registration Now Just a Click Away

The Ministry of Commerce has streamlined the process for registering a business in Cambodia by creating a site that enables businesses to register online. What was once a three-day ordeal can now be completed in minutes, and ministry officials said they believe the simpler system will attract more foreign investors to the country.

Online registration systems are the norm in most countries around the world, and the launch of the new service will help Cambodia compete with its neighbors, said so Phonnary, the group chief operating officer for Acleda Bank.

Along with saving businesses time, it would drop the requirement to appear at the ministry offices in person, allowing businesses to register from abroad. Commerce Minister Sun Chathol said it will also improve Cambodia's position by improving its place in the World's Bank's annual “Doing Business” rankings (currently the country sits in a dismal 180th place).
