Lost passport, return flight not for 4 months, visa runs out in 2 weeks

Featured Replies

Sorry If there is alread a topic like this, i have skimmed over and cant find any with all these problems.

My passport fell out of my pocket in a taxi the other evening, the taxi driver told the receptionist in my hotel he would take it to lumpini police station, i have been twice since then and now passport.

I have had the idea to go and check at all the other major police stations but not sure which ones would be best, I mean if the driver left the hotel then got another fair he could of gone anywhere.

What concerns me is my reurn flight leave Bangkok at the end of May, my visa was due to expire in 2 weeks, I was planning a trip to Laos to make a new tourist visa.

The visa application website claims it will take 6 weeks for me to recieve the passport, I can not seem to find a fast track option for lost passports, I also have no othe form of ID.

I will be heading to Thai immigration to ask about my situation on Monday but am fairly worried about what they could do.

Will it be possible for me to pay over stay for the extra 4 weeks I am here? 14000 bit pricey but seems it is my only option?

Any ideas and help would be greatly accepted, I am stressing out quite a lot about it all.

Thanks in advance.

The first thing to do is to report the passport as lost with the police and get a police report. There is no point going to immigration without a police report and a new passport/emergency travel document (ETD). Second you should go to your embassy and get an ETD. Once you have a police report and ETD you can go to immigration. Immigration will stamp the ETD with your current permit to stay which you'll need to exit the country with.

I believe that you can get a tourist visa from Vientiane, Laos with a ETD. In which case you could return to Thailand and apply for a new passport during your 60 day stay.

If hotel contacted taxi driver who had it do not understand how it can be lost - re-contact taxi or take information to police.

Edit: also check with all hotel personal that it was not returned to them by chance.

It amazes me as how visitors loose their passports in many different ways..facepalm.gif

I have been here for 16 years and I treat mine like gold, and have never misplaced it...

The trouble, the time and cost in replacing it is one big pain, to say the least... rolleyes.gif

thank you!

should of mentioned i have a police report already, I will go to the embassey monday morning to make an ETD

It was an outside taxi with no relation to the hotel so no way to contact the driver, I am confused why he did not take it to the police station, if he wanted to keep it he didnt need to go inside the hotel.

I went back to the hotel again today to check but no luck.

The Vientiane options sounds good.

I will also try some of the other nearby polce stations.

Thank you for your help.

so you dropped the passport in a taxi that has no connection to your hotel,

then the taxi driver goes to your hotel, but instead of handing the passport to them, he says he will take it to the police.

when you get the replacement, gaffer tape it to your hairy chest in a plastic bag,

Off topic post removed, and one about moderation.

be advised, I just returned from the British Embassy who told me Laos does not accept ETD's however Cambodia does but I would not be allowed back into Thailand unless a replacement passport was already being processed.
