Went to Penang last week to make a Non O multiple entry marriage visa.

I stayed in a guest house in Chula street which had a visa agent that was recommended to myself.

The visa agent would not process my application as I never brought my wife's Thai bank book showing a balance of 400k baht.

Instead I had a statement from my UK account showing a balance in pounds sterling equivalent to 500k baht.

The agent said it would be better if I went myself.

I went to the consulate and was asked to show a copy of my marriage certificate, a copy of my wife's ID card, 2 passport pictures , 750 ringgit and I showed my UK bank statements which the female staff member said were acceptable.

I returned the next day and collected my passport complete with non o multiple entry visa.

If I was to advise someone else going to do the same I think it would be safer to take a Thai bank book.

  • I doubt a Thai bank book in your wife's name would have been accepted. A Thai bank book in your name would be a good idea but not necessary.

Embassies/consulates accept foreign currency accounts in the name of the applicant if, after applying the exchange rate, the amount meets the required Thai baht equivalent.
