Muslim woman thrown out of Trump rally; group seeks apology

TOM FOREMAN Jr., Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (AP) — An advocacy group is seeking an apology from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump after a Muslim woman standing in silent protest at one of his rallies was heckled and escorted out.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations issued the call for an apology after Rose Hamid was thrown out of the Trump rally at Winthrop University in South Carolina on Friday.

Hamid said she was standing up in protest to a Trump statement when members of the audience pointed her out by chanting "Trump, Trump, Trump."

CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad also called on Trump to meet with American Muslim leaders to help stem the anti-Muslim sentiment resulting from his rhetoric and that of other Republican presidential candidates.

Hamid said Saturday afternoon she hadn't received any response.

"I would like to hear what Trump has to say about it," she told The Associated Press by phone. "I'd like to hear because if they say that it was because we were disrupting things, then I would like him to show evidence of where the disruption came, because the disruption didn't come from me."

Trump didn't address the incident on Saturday while campaigning in Iowa. But he defended his proposal to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the country. He said his call had drawn attention to radical Islamic extremism, which he described as "a very deep-seated problem that we have in this country and throughout the world.'"

Hamid, a flight attendant, said there were no problems as she waited in line to enter and hear Trump speak.

"I didn't get a bad vibe from anyone," she said. "The people I made personal contact with were very pleasant."

Hamid said the mood changed once the rally began, and the spotlight began to shift to her.

"My intention was to stand up when he said something that was offensive, not just for Muslims but for anyone," she said.

When she stood up, she said, people around her began to chant. Trump soon acknowledged it. At that point, Hamid said she and a fellow protester were asked to leave.

Then, she said, verbal taunts came from some in the audience.

"There was a guy who was saying, 'Do you have a bomb Do you have a bomb?' This is an older man," Hamid said. "And I said 'No, do you have a bomb?'" She said another man yelled at her to get out.

Hamid said security officials didn't touch her as they led her out, adding that "I was glad that nobody got physical and did anything scary."

The evidence of disruption was there.....You!!! Rose Hamid!!! ...YOU, purposely went to this rally, with that in mind, as you knew you wouldn't be welcome.

Nice try....

Get off the turps mate. Anger doesn't become you.

She has every right to be there.

She stood up to protest and disrupt the meeting. She was led out. Nobody touched her. What does she want an apology for? Wonder what would happen if I went to an Obama townhall and just silently stood there every time somebody said something I didn't like? Do you think CNN would have let me or anybody else do that a few nights ago??? Or would I/we have been led out by force?

Actually, she has no right to protest in a private venue.

Her plan was to disrupt. She knew she would be asked to leave. There was a PR team ready to play the Oppressed Muslim card when she did get asked to leave.

Nobody is buying this any more. The card has been played too many times.

Although I believe all religious people are delusional,

Good on her for having the stones to go in to the lion's den "to stand up when he said something that was offensive, not just for Muslims but for anyone"

I applaud you Rose Hamid.

Color me impressed when she walks into a Muslim rally and does something they disapprove of.

Trump is trying to scapegoat Muslims in the same way that Jews have often been scapegoated. A reason why American Jews are showing leadership in resisting this scapegoating of Muslims in the USA. Just as they did after 9-11. The star wearing of the Muslim protesters made sense understanding that context. Trump's supporters include many fascists, some who affectionately call him the Trumpenfeuhrer.

"with the sole intent of disrupting" facepalm.gif

Right.

"a Muslim woman standing in silent protest at one of his rallies was heckled and escorted out."

"I'd like to hear because if they say that it was because we were disrupting things, then I would like him to show evidence of where the disruption came, because the disruption didn't come from me."

Standing silently is not disruptive.

Was she asked to leave because she was standing, because she was silent, or because she was Muslim?

If the first, she could have been asked to sit down. If the second, she could have been asked to speak up........But it seems that her mere presence, the fact of her religion, sparked uncontrollable feelings in the WWF fans. It is they that were disruptive and who should have been escorted out.

Was she asked to leave because she was standing, because she was silent, or because she was Muslim?

She was probably asked to leave because if she hadn't, she'd probably have been physically abused or hurt ie it was to protect her. Lot of angry people out there.

It was a protest and one that a civilized audience should have responded to in a civil way. Booing her projects a blanket bigotry against all Muslim people and that's just wrong.

Wrong. The people were upset about her disrupting a private event. She knew what she was going to do and what she was doing. If she didn't think it would be disruptive she wouldn't have done it.

Come into my home while I'm having a private party and pull that shit and see what happens.

Cheers.

Trump should say he'll apologise when they apologise for the jihadist terrorism. I guess that'd shut them up.

Why should she, or any other American, apologise for nutcases in Syria?

Seriously...Why?

Why should Trump apologise? She was just sh**stirring and in danger of getting thumped.

It's just a way of getting the stirrers to pull their heads in. No one would believe they meant it even if they did, and they wouldn't.

Exactly. I am sick and tired of this Western "Who me?" crap where as long as people think they have a clever cover for action they have cover for status. In other words, as long as JackAs-es think they can articulate a clever excuse for their actions they are therefore provided total cover and can allege anything-- if it makes sense in your own mind the world must believe it. "I am just an innocent muslim woman who got kicked out for... for doing nothing at all. In fact, it was the other people who were staring at me, pointing at me, shouting 'Trump,' 'Trump.' Its their fault, not mine."

I am so sick of all these people. This behavior is not a muslim thing; most would never try this crap anywhere else in the muslim world because they would be beaten to death with a shoe for speaking such BS. This is an American thing where we teach everyone to claim victim hood and afford them goodies and jewels and free stuff because they "feel" hurt. This is an example of "Lawfare," using the existing legal and social constructs of our society to disable and blind us to what is right before us. The goal here is to perpetuate the fallacy that muslims are sacred cows in the US, above circumspection.
