Residency questions

Featured Replies

My family and I are thinking about applying for residency. We are both teachers and we have three children. None of us are Thai. My husband will be applying.

Two major questions- Will we pay 191,000 baht per person? Our children are all under 10.

I have been on an Immigrant O visa and getting paid by a school via bank transfer for 3 months. I have signed a contract and the school is going to get me a work permit after I change my visa to a Non-immigrant B. My question is, while applying for residency, will my bank account be checked? Will seeing I was paid for 3 months, prior to getting a B visa/work permit hurt our chances of attaining residency?

Thank you for your help and insight.

As no one else has replied yet I'll start the ball rolling.

What do you mean by "Residency"?

Your mention of 191,000 baht implies Permanent Residency,

but the other information you give shows you are no where near being entitled to it.

Also, if you have been working illegally (i.e. no work permit) do NOT let immigration know!

Hi Ginka...seems i need to give more info..We have lived in Thailand for 12 years. My husband has had the same job for 8 years. I've worked legally here for 8 years, but not consecutively. As mentioned above, we have three children. I took a year or more off of work after giving birth each time.

My current position is now working on my work permit and visa. I will be legally employed soon.

I also speak, read and write Thai. Certainly not with 100% accuracy, but good enough to text in thai to my friends.

I am obviously not informing immigration about my work the past 3 months. What I'm asking is- is it true that my bank accounts will be scrutinized once the application process begins?

Thanks for your response and help.

And yes, we are thinking about permanent residence for all five of us.

The most logical way to do the applications is for your husband to apply and get his permanent residency first. Then the rest of the family can apply for being his family members.

His residency would a fee of 191,400 baht when approved. Yours and the children would be 95,700 if you apply after he gets his.

Also after he gets his the family could apply for one year extensions as his family members.

Another great and on point answer from ubonjoe

But what exactly what would the OP gain for the 287,100 THB expenditure ?

Being able to stay here for the rest of their lives without the need for visas or extensions of stay. Also no 90 day reporting.

Thank you

Is it true that we would still be required to attain work permits? Also re-entry permits anytime we leave the country. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but for a family of five. .. it really adds up.

Will they be looking at my bank accounts if my husband is the one applying first?

And do I pay per person after my husband gets permanner residence or just 91k for the rest of the family?

Thanks.

1. Yes you still need a work permit.

2. Yes you need a re-entry permit if you want to leave the country. You also need an 'endorsement' on your PR book, which means that the total cost is MORE if you have PR.

The fee is per applicant, although I don't know about children.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for your answers. Ugh, per person is rough!!

Anyone know if they will look at MY bank accounts when considering my husband's application?

Is it truly for life? I've read that for children, they lose their residence when they become adults... 20 years old, I think. Anyone know about this from experience?

Many thanks again everyone.

They will not be interested in your fiances when your husband applies.

Yes for life. The age of 20 is the cutoff for children to apply based upon being the child of a PR holder.
