Retirement extension of stay bank amount requirement

Featured Replies

I just renewed my retirement extension of stay at Jomtien. This is the third time I've done it there. Previous times they've only asked to see 400,000 baht in a Thai bank, my name and married to a Thai (800,000 baht if no marriage). I had my wife ask them about the amount, and amount of time it needs to be in the bank. The lady told my wife it's 800,000 baht in a foreigners name only, and 1.6 mill baht in a joint account with a Thai. She also mentioned that the money needs to be in the account minimum 3 months before visiting immigration. As far as I can tell the amount has doubled from previous years, and the time it has to be in has gone up from two months to three. Luckily I had more than the required amount in the account.

Keep in mind this info was from a girl that was working one of the desks, not sure if she was an actual immigration official or just a secretary type person.

I haven't heard these amounts before so if this is old info my apologies; just trying to help people avoid confusion before getting down there. Plus, two different people sitting next to me trying to get the same visa were turned down because they didn't have the Thai owner's ID card of the place they're staying. I'm sure I read somewhere on this forum that this new rule has come into effect already, but obviously these two people hadn't.

If there are any people reading this that have any kind of influence with Thai immigration Jomtien office; might be an idea to have someone checking peoples documents BEFORE getting to the counters. This would save foreigners time......and also the immigration officers time as well. It would also lessen the amount of frustration/stress on everybody involved. One reason this would help is; the rules change a lot and it's hard to keep up with what the latest rulings are. I know there is a desk off to the side that does this but they don't check everybody, only people that know they need help. Two people next to me needed copies of some of their paperwork, if they had known beforehand it would have saved some time....other people's time behind them in the line.

And before anyone mentions it; I know it's Chonburi immigration office not Jomtien, just easy for everyone to understand Jomtien instead of calling it Chonburi.

12 Month Extension based on Marriage = 400,000 in the bank or 40,000 monthly income.

12 Month Extension based on Retirement = 800,000 in the bank or 65,000 monthly income or a combination of both.

Looks like previously you have applied based on Marriage and this time for Retirement

For seasoning, for many years now, the NATIONAL rule (also followed at Jomtien) for retirement extensions is TWO MONTHS seasoning for FIRST TIME extensions, and THREE for all subsequent ones. No change!

It is still 400k baht in the bank for 2 month for a an extension based upon marriage. An extension based upon retirement is 800k baht for 3 months,

You apparently have been applying for extensions based upon marriage in the past.

This will be the third time in a row applying for retirement instead of marriage.

Just stating what the girl told my wife.

Did you have a 30 day under consideration period after application for the extension?

Did you attach your marriage certificate and a Kor Ror 2 to your application?

Did you show photos of you and the wife around the house?

If yes then your were applying for an extension of stay based upon marriage not retirement.

Since all the answers aren't the same, not sure what to say about it. I think this is the problem with every office requiring different evidence, if it was the same in every office country wide there wouldn't be these discrepancies/confusion. The only thing I can suggest to people is have MORE than enough evidence available. I had more than what was needed--just in case, and she just gave what she didn't want back to me.

I'm confused if you live in Bang Saen Chonburi do you report to Sriracha Immigration, or Jomtien.?

Jomtien immigration is actually an office of CHONBURI immigration so I reckon that answers your question unless there's a closer CHONBURI immigration office to your home.

How much does it cost the first time? And how much does it cost to change one's visa status from tourist visa to 90 day non I/O. Thanks in advance for replies.

2,000 Baht to change to Non Imm O Visa

1,900 Baht to then apply for 12 month extension.

The fee for all extensions of stay is 1900 baht.

The fee for a non immigrant visa is 2000 baht.
