Doing a visa run from Phuket to Penang in a Benzene Fuelled Car?

Featured Replies

Hi All.

I wondered if anyone knows how easy it is to purchase benzene at petrol stations in Malaysia? I'm planning on doing a visa run and thought a road trip might be a nice way of doing it, but I don't know how easy it will be to re-fuel my benzene-drinking car. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks.

Only Halal benzine is available in Malaysia

Check user manual

No problem, but you need to translate your number plates to roman characters and buy insurance for Malaysia.

Both can be made by agents at the border, calculate some time for it.

Also bring your blue registration book.

Benzine ?

Do you mean Petrol or as the Americans say "Gas"

I don't think you will be able to refill benzene in Malaysia. Never seen filling stations for it in Thailand, either. Too inflammable to run a vehicle with it, I should think.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

For some reason Thais use the word benzene for what others call gasoline/petrol/motor spirit.

Benzene is an organic chemical often used as a solvent in liquid form. It has nothing to do with the stuff you put in your car.

Check the recommended octane rating and leaded/unleaded requirement for your vehicle and you are good to go.

It is easy.

For petrol, look out for this sign:

For gasoline, look out for this sign:

Since Malaysia is mostly Muslim, you might not find the last sign... coffee1.gif

I am American so gas is gas

near the border they will only sell you 97 octane ( 95 is only for Malaysian tagged cars) about 8 baht/lt less than 95 here

further down they will sell 95

there is no 91

I drove down last June.

10 hours from Phuket to Penang

make sure u have MYR for the toil roads BEFORE you head down

Thanks for your help, guys. I was confused when I came to Thailand and 'petrol' wasn't 'petrol' anymore (I'm from the UK), so I wanted to preempt any possible confusion in Malaysia. From what you have said, I think it might be a little easier there. I will take on board your advice about taking money for the toll roads, translating the number plates, getting Malaysian insurance and taking my blue book. That really was so helpful. Thanks again!
