The number of workers who fainted in garment and footwear factories across the Kingdom last year – 1,806 – is the same as in 2014, though the number of factories in which mass fainting incidents occurred declined by 5.8 percent, according to a report that will be officially released at a workshop on Thursday.

The report by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) said that the faintings occurred at 32 factories across the country and that all but 14 of the workers who fainted last year were women.

The report cites several factors for causing the faintings, saying the main reason workers collapsed was “psychosocial.” Second on the list was overtime – 23 percent of the workers who fainted while making garments or footwear were working too much, the report said. Other reasons why garment and footwear workers collapsed while working include “chemicals” (18 percent), “physical” (16 percent), “biological” (7 percent) and “mechanical” (2 percent).
