PATTAYA: -- On Thursday morning a team of District Officers and Army personnel, acting on orders from the NCPO (National Council for Peace and Order), conducted checks on Minivan Taxi’s that shuttle passengers to and from Pattaya to Bangkok.

The team converged, unannounced, on a taxi stop on the Bangkok-Bound carriageway of the Sukhumvit Road in South Pattaya and began detailed checks on all drivers.

One of the drivers, Khun Krairut aged 40 was drug tests and failed confirming the presence of methamphetamine in his system.

Wow

There is a step in the right direction. good job thumbsup.gif

Next get them for the dangerous ways they drive, that would be something !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Digital tachographs and speed limiters are needed for these clowns!!!

Obviously, checks could not be conducted by RTP.

Digital tachographs and speed limiters are needed for these clowns!!!

Along with proper fines, mandatory and random drug tests, regulated working hours, education....and of course....roving police cars that catch them in the act of passing on the left, right, middle, etc. LOL

Lock em up together with the drunk driving farangs and Thais and the roads would be a lot safer, then some cells for red light jumpers and it might actually improve.

What is with the high use of drugs in this country? I know it happens all over the world but it seems common practice for anyone from a farmer to a Hi-so to use them. Van & bus drivers seem to do just about every drug available & still go out onto the roads. Don't understand. Is it social stigma? Is it forgetting about what life deals you? Or is it just the fact that you can stay awake longer when driving? Scourge of humanity. Yes I have been touched by the affect of drugs when my stepbrother died of an overdose. He was 33 at the time.

Just as i thought , you were being a the usual cheeky monkey you are.

Think its called Trolling.

Oh dear, I see the TV narcotics/amphetamine experts are out already but seeming to lack even the basic understanding why so many drivers take this muck.

Basically it is a question of economics over any thought to road safety given to the drivers themselves, their passengers, or other road users pedestrians etc.

Drivers are often encouraged (sometimes allegedly ordered) by their owners to take whatever is necessary to make as many runs as possible in one shift and screw every last baht possible out of the vehicle.

Sadly those issuing such orders to drivers to make 5 up and down trips between Bangkok and Pattaya (for example) are untouchable and never called to task when there is an accident. Sadly and often with tragic consequences, the drivers feel they have little choice but to comply or lost their jobs.

correct except for the fact that this was conducted by the military NOT the police. That is the root of the whole problem. The police have not ever, and will not ever do their job of enforcement as it doesn't help them financially. They have paid for their positions. This had made their jobs solely about money and profit and has nothing to do with justice or "serving and protecting".

Until the RTP is reformed, only the military can do any real police work.

Now every raid you see on gambling dens or any large busts at all are always headed up by the military. The police are just brought along for the ride and to save face.

Get rid of the whole RTP and start over from scratch.

Agree,

Not a bad idea at all. thumbsup.gif

But will never happen, it to big a mess now.

I do feel the military are backing off in areas where they should

be tuning up the heat !!!!

Why do people travel on minivans , it's a suicide mission. Good luck !

Because its cheap, and many die when they get involved in a serious accident.

Could not careless if the driver dies , we know what they are all like.

But the poor passengers, i do feel sorry for.

Some time its small children as well.

The best answer is to have a small specialist team that work the toll stations at random pulling over any vehicle the suspect as "hire for reward", then if you get a drive refuse to use the toll-ways or motorway you know he is dodgy...
