January 15, 201610 yr http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-01-15/netflix-to-block-tools-that-flout-local-copyright-restrictions "Netflix will stop people from using virtual private network proxies to access the service as if they were in another country, the company said in a blog post. Customers have used VPNs to access Netflix in countries where the streaming service wasn’t available."
January 15, 201610 yr I have my own private VPN on a server. I'm the only person who accesses it. You think they're going to detect it ? My guess is that they will collect IP addresses used on multiple accounts and analyse the information searching for VPN looking services used by different netflix accounts over time. This approach will pick up a lot of false positives. Ultimately I believe they will fail but they will be able to identify the larger VPN services.
January 16, 201610 yr They have been 'trying' to block VPN's for some time now. That being said its a cat n mouse game, and they essentially admitted that last week. http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Netflix-Sure-Well-Crack-Down-On-VPN-Use-Wink-Wink-136079
January 20, 201610 yr why would they care where you download things? You pay for the Netflix service, log in with your account, etc. Where I am sitting at the moment in the world should not be of any relevence
January 20, 201610 yr Without wanting to incur the wrath of Don Mega for commenting a previously much discussed topic..... But, Netflix per se doesn't really care where you watch the content. However what they do care about is the content providers continue to sell them the rights to distribute the products. These content providers, not Netflix, are the dinosaurs who get paranoid about this, since they want to sell distribution rights in multiple geographic regions to maximize their profits. The thought of a single global provider, and hence a single revenue source is an anathema to them. Remember these are the same people who forced DVD region coding down the consumers throat!
