PATTAYA: Police and medics were called to a condominium under construction in East Pattaya on Friday afternoon following the death of an Electrician who was installing air-conditioning compressor units.

The incident occurred at The Mountain Egmongkol Condominium in Soi Kao Talo just before 3pm on Friday and resulted in the death of Khun Pornatee aged 36 who worked for the IQ Home Company who were contracted to fit air-conditioning units at the newly constructed condominium.

Police spoke with his work colleague, Khun Prayum aged 39, who was hoisting the 100kg compressor units up to the 7th floor where the victim was due to fit them. Something happened as the victim grabbed one of the compressors as it reached the 7th floor causing him to fall over the side of the building to his death.

Sad...

Just no Health & Safety, all he needed was a safety harness and shown how to use it.

If this happened in the UK now a lot of people would be facing prosecution including the directors of both the construction company and the deceased employers.

Same thing in America,OSHA requires a harness 6ft. of the ground and above.

RIP

Scary how people seem to disregard there own personal safety sad.png

Indeed they will not even invest a few hundred Baht for the safety of their life.

They really must believe in the next one.

A picture that I took from my hotel room in Pattaya (June 2013).

The roof is the 5th level.

After taking the picture I closed the curtain blink.png

So many times I've read postings on this forum denigrating our home countries as "Nanny States". In the US, every employer I knew complained about OHSA (Occupational Health and Safety Regs) and how much time and paperwork they cost. Even the workers these regulations were supposed to protect complained about the inconvenience of safety belts and other devices required. Often, it was the workers themselves who would circumvent safety measures.

Thailand is a land of no liability lawyers and very few enforced safety regulations....can you imagine a family of four riding down a US or UK main street on a motorbike, baby set on the handlebars?

I guess what we seem to want is enforced safety regulations as long as they don't inconvenience us.

An 'electrician' friend related a story of a phone call he received from a Thai contractor.

Can you come and complete an electrical installation at a villa?

Friend asks about the previous electrician. And is told - he's dead.

Guy was repairing a portable drill in a puddle of water while it was plugged in. Boom!

No regulations here, despite what the designated forum procrastinates.

Of course you are correct but when I was required to wear a safety harness when filming a car race

standing on a scaffold platform 4 feet off the ground I was a little resentful. There was safety railing

on three sides of the platform leaving just the side facing the race for the camera to pan through

unobstructed. blink.png

In the falang world (21st century) 1 death would lead into an detailed investigation of how this happened,

then mandatory training for all employees and workers protection laws would be implemented to

prevent the risk of a repeat fatality.

But what happens here in Thailand ??? Nothing.
Just goes to show that the Thai Authorities couldn't care less of their own people dying,
as they do with tourists.
