Lasik surgery

I had it done and it's fantastic. I have what's called monovision where they corrected my dominate eye for distance, and my other eye for reading. Vision is additive to the brain and I never notice that one eye is dragging a bit. The brain switches to the sharp eye and the other eye is good enough for good depth perception. I never need glasses for anything.

They corrected my dominate eye to 20/15 and I feel like Superman, LOL.

There are different machines. I would make sure the doc had the latest and greatest.

Cheers.

Srinakarin in Khon Kaen University is the best equipped hospital up here, worth a consultation with the eye specialist.

NeverSure, if you don't mind me asking, what would be the price be for such treatment ?

Thanks for the info. I called and spoke with them. They said the price there was around 50,000 Baht.

Is that for each eye? My daughter just had hers done in Australia and cost her $2500 per eye, that's around 63,000 baht per eye, if for both that is a excellent price.

Sinakarin hospital is a excellent hospital I had my prostate operation done there.

My friend had eye surgery very recently at Khon Kaen General Hospital, Sri Chan Road, which he is more than happy with.

He got a quotation from the specialist and a date for the surgery. The doctor advised him that if he wanted it done the following week, he, the same specialist, could do it at Bangkok Hospital, Khon Kaen, obviously at a higher premium.

My friend opted for the General Hospital about 6 weeks later, and everything went very smoothly.

He paid less than half of the Bangkok Hospital, for surgery performed by the same specialist.

It might be worth a visit, or a phone call, the Khon Kaen General.

I had mine done in England (Ultralase, Chelmsford) in 2008 and both were done at the same time. I could see the clock immediately upon sitting up afterwards and at the check-up the following day, they advised I could drive home if I wanted to. :-) Not that it's necessarily relevant to you, but it cost £3,600 and I paid £150 per month for 2 years, interest free. Lifetime aftercare - haven't tested that, as haven't needed to.

Admittedly, that first night my eyes were very sensitive to light, but after that it was pretty much OK. They gave me clear plastic eye patches, which I had to wear each night for the first week - sticking them on with surgical plaster. That's just so you don't inadvertently rub them in the night.

I also had to put two sets of eye drops in - can't remember how many times a day, but think it was 3 or 4. Had to take one for one week and the other for two weeks. This is all about preventing infections, I think. You also have to ensure you don't get water in your eyes, so you're not meant to shower for a week. However, I just ensured I kept my eyes very firmly closed for the duration of my showers and everything turned out fine. I think I had a check up after the two weeks, but it may have been a month after the op.

My eyes are still 20/20, although I do notice the difference with the dominant eye being completely "perfect" and the other feeling slightly less than 20/20...even though it isn't. And that's with my eyes being -7.75 and -7.25 when I had the op. The actual experience of having it done was the most surreal thing I've ever experienced. Couldn't have gone better, as far as I'm concerned.

Good luck.

"They said the price there was around 50,000 Baht."

Was that at the regular day time hospital, or through their afternoon/evening clinic?

Big difference in price, and also how long you have to wait to get scheduled for an operation.

Same doctors.

Sorry I didn't get back. I paid $4,000 in the US. Those machines are very expensive so I wouldn't expect it to be cheap in LOS with the best computerized machine.

Yes, both eyes at once. I needed someone with me to drive me home by dr's rules, as I was a bit sedated and teary-eyed. But I could see well as we went home. The next day I was good to go.

It's the best thing I've ever done for myself as an elective.
