BANGKOK: -- Two Bangkok taxi drivers have been arrested and shown before the media for crimes against female passengers.

The Bangkok Post reports that Arkom Shinda, from Khon Kaen, has been arrested for the alleged rape of a passenger, while Jeerawat Singsoda, from Surin, has allegedly committed nine robberies against female passengers.

Last week, an unidentified woman claimed that she had been raped by her taxi driver after he picked her up from Soi Nana following a party. She claims to have fallen asleep in the taxi after asking to be taken to Phra Khanong, before waking up in a hotel in Din Daeng where she was assaulted.

A police investigation found that Arkom was the driver of her taxi. He has allegedly confessed to the crime and claimed it was his first time.

Jeerawat was also found by a police investigation that was launched after a female passenger complained she was robbed of ‎฿5,000 in cash by her driver after being picked up in Din Daeng.

Jewellery, a handbag, ID cards and an ATM card belonging to the victim were also found by police in Jeerawat’s Bang Na apartment.

He said it was his first time !!bas..d wants castrating.

There should never be a first time.

these poor lads, looking at a one month license suspension.

Wonder if anyone checks for past criminal record of drivers of public transport vehicles, or for any civil workers, for that matter?

Have a look in the Bangkok Post (at least paper edition) . There is a photo of him "waiing" and asking for foregiveness. All is OK.

and if the victims had been farang the taxi drivers would suddenly becomes Burmese

"before waking up in a hotel in Din Daeng where she was assaulted."....did I miss something, if she was asleep in the taxi and then woke up in a hotel room, did she float into the hotel room?

Only Tough punishments can stop such heinous acts or else it will be a routine story.

500 Baht and some i'm sorry..... they will be out in no time to give good service to the people....

As you get in the cab take a picture of the licence and e-mail it to yourself. coffee1.gif

everyone should just boycott these scumbags anyway. Just use grab taxi of other options.

Just think how much traffic would be reduced if these scumbags weren't driving around all the time just looking to rip people off. If you won't pay what they're trying to extort out of you they just keep driving and causing more traffic jams.

Then they stop in the middle of traffic to negotiate some ridiculous fee from tourists while all of the other people in traffic have to wait for them.

Just think of how nice it would be to drive down the side streets if these vermin weren't blocking up both sides of an already narrow road so that they could extort some unsuspecting tourist as he leaves his hotel.

There are some scumbags out there, a lot of them, but they are not all as bad as that.

Hopefully his wife will make sure it was his last time.

....years of apologizing....no criminal records....so they can do as they please...and say sorry again...and produce some infantile excuse....

It's ok,one serious apology,with a shamefaced look and a strict 'dont do it again warning.A 1000 baht fine and a month's suspension,will soon teach this evil,dirty,Oportunist,A##hole a severe lesson
