Thai Central says keen to bid for Casino's units in Thailand, Vietnam

This is not good news for consumers. Although Tesco-Lotus is run by Tesco, CP owns part of it as well as Makro (totally) and we may well end up with a duopoly in supermarkets as well as mini-marts.

As Prbkk says above there is no visible sign of any anti-monopolistic body involved.

I don't think CP owns part of Tesco- lotus, he sold that long ago, but he publicly announced that he is interested in buying Tesco - Lotus which actually indicates that Tesco is considering selling.

So since Makro has already sold up to CP and Tesco and Casino are now also considering leaving the Thai market, preceded by Carrefour and Delhaize several years ago, don't you think we should see the sign on the wall ?

Keep in mind these are not companies set up to own a beer bar but instead multinational conglomerates.

Tops is from Central for sure. I just had a warranty issue at Central Westgate and they called the cashier from Tops to spea englit with me. I told her you are from Tops, i want to speak to Central, she replied: Oh is same same sir. tongue.png

But Central wouldn't help me with the warranty issue about a Japanese brand product i just bought there and then i told them i would never shop in Central again. Then suddenly they wanted to help me and gave me a brand new product as service wai2.gif The other one was 4 weeks old and used one them when it broke.

That's the only decently priced import foods gone then.

Totally right. M and S and Waitrose products are ridiculously expensive, and the imported stuff in Villa over-priced and always rising. I remember giving up on buying Ryvita there when it jumped in cost by 30% plus in less than 3 months.

Lotus Rama 4's old, but sadly now gone, Food Of The World section did have varied and good value products but disappeared overnight.

Also, my parents used to send me a huge box of Xmas foods from Prince Charles's farm shop every year, i.e 3 by 1 by 1 foot, Wonderful stuff as his quality contol must match that of the Queen's, not Diana's, behaviour,

Unfortunately this stopped by mutual consent after 8 years when customs decided to hit me for 50 pounds import duty for 2 consecutive years. Now they send me cash instead to get my Xmas goodies. Sadly, nothing of half the same quality is available here. here.

Seems then we cannot even use the Red Cross Parcel idea to get decent food from home.

Oh well. Back to Cow pat kung.
