Requirement for extension of stay re retirement at Nan Immigration or others if applied elsewhere.

Firstly could I please ask that this is left as a standalone topic as it is asking a specific question.

After doing my last extention of stay in October 2015 at Nan Immigration which was granted, I was then advised that for next year my bank account will have to show that at least 100 baht per month had been deposited for the three months prior to the application.

My problem is that the required amount of 800,000 baht which has been there since the year dot is in a term deposit and as far as I understand what is described above would not be possible.I have other money elsewhere but it has to be in the same account. I have tried to contact Nan by phone and email to confirm this but neither are answered. If everything I have mentioned is required that means I have to transfer the amount to a savings account and recieve little or no intrest.

My question is if others have come across this at Nan (or any other office), how did you get around it ?

Have you asked your bank if it's possible to deposit 100 baht per month into this account? Did they really say just 100 baht/month?

They did say at least 100 baht per month. I am going to the bank on thursday to find out if it is possible to deposit that amount to that account. I did have a term deposit at another bank in the past which did have amounts added over and above the original opening amount that were substantually more than 100 baht. Have you ever heard of this before,I can't fathom out why they require this.

I think they may of meant that you should deposit 100 baht so that the bank book can be updated to confirm the money has been in the bank for 3 months.

They have always demanded that the bank book has to have been updated on the day you are applying for extension but the bank statement itself can be anywhere between the same day or two weeks before, I say that because it varies depending on the person processing the application.

I should add that the very nice lady that handled my application spoke very good english was very helpfull and clearly stated that it was what her boss reuquired in the future.

I've done 3 extensions in NAN , and they never asked for that. Last time they did ask for same day update next time. If it is only to see an update in the 3 months before the extension , why deposit at least 100 B ? Now I do withdraw every month from that same account for monthly expenses and the account has monthly interest payments , so that is automaticly more than 100B/month...

May I ask when your last extension was ? My last one was on the 6th of October. I agree with you, why ask for at least 100 baht deposits every month for each of the three months before the extention application. Just doesn't make sense but that is what was clearly stated by the very nice lady who spoke very good english.

May 2015. So in 4 months I have to do the dreaded extension again. But if that is a new requirement , I guess I'm covered by the monthly interest payments.

Yes, you should be and so should I because interest is paid in every three months to my present account.

In Udon the headman sent me back to the bank with my letter. He asked for addition of last three month balances to the letter format simply date:balance. On return he looked at the letter then told me he did not need the passbook as the bank had stamped the letter.

what is the effective day for bank statement, 3days or 7 days?

Thats going to depend on the office you attend. I have had 2 days at Pathum Thani and now at Nan, it has been 2 days, then the same day and last time they said no more than 2 weeks. Sorry but I can't help you on that one, what office do you attend ? The only thing I can suggest is if possible, go to the office before the due date to find out what that office requires.

Perhaps the reason for 100 baht/month for 3 months is to show the money has really been in the account -- to have a balance update for each month. Some banks, like Bangkok Bank, will update a bankbook to the current date even without any account activity. Others, I understand, will only update a bankbook to the date of the last activity. What bank is involved? If it's Bangkok Bank, maybe all you have to do is go update the bankbook each month during the final three months to show the then-current balance.

When was this as it sounds something similar to my situation ?

That is a distinct possibility. My bank is Bangkok Bank so that shoudn't be a problem. I can understand they want to put a stop to the people abusing the system. It's unfortunate that people like myself and others that are doing the right thing are caught up in this.In my case ,the required amount has always been there with the account activity there in the bankbook for them to see if there has been any funny business at all.
