webfact
Mixed farming eases rubber price crashYALA, 20 January 2016 (NNT) – A local rubber planter in the southern province of Yala has survived the rubber price crash with mixed farming. He is happy to share his experience and knowledge of the integrated agriculture with others. In response to the sharp decline in rubber prices, Thanya Kaewcharoen has turned part of his rubber plantation into fish ponds, mushroom and livestock farms. Thanks to the mixed farming, he is not only able to cut down on his expense, but also earn an extra income of more than 100,000 baht per year.Thanya said he produced fertilizers and bio-gas for use in his family from livestock manure. He divided his farm into different zones in line with the types of livestock so as to manage water usage efficiently. The top earner is catfish, which alone adds as much as 20,000 to his income. His success and the government support had inspired Thanya to help fellow farmers. He disclosed that different agencies and villagers had visited his plantation to learn about mixed farming.-- NNT 2016-01-

MaiChai
I have just done a 600 km round trip through ne Thailand and amazed how many rubber trees have been planted. They seem to be everywhere. Thus I am not surprised there is over supply. Thai farmers need to diversify.
