webfact
Party members asked to stop discrediting the governmentBANGKOK: -- Core members of the Pheu Thai party were urged by the government to stop activities which are deemed as illegal with an ill intention to discredit the government and the military junta.Government spokesman Maj-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd on Wednesday clarified why the National Council for Peace and Order decided to ban former energy minister Pichai Naripthapant from travelling to the United States to participate in a congressional meeting.Judging from Mr Pichai’s previous criticisms which risk provoking conflicts, he said that there was ground to suspect that the former MP would again say something negative about the government and the country if he is allowed to go overseas, said the spokesman.Without naming the party’s name, he observed that core members of that party wanted to make use of the international forum to air their views against the government and the junta. He said he was not sure whether the party had lobbied its supporters abroad to invite them to go abroad to speak but he predicted more similar invitations in the future.Maj-Gen Sansern insisted that it was necessary to curb foreign travels of the party members because the country is not under normal situation. baboon
Rather jumpy isn't he, considering the government enjoy overwhelming support from Thais and foreigners alike? Surely a smattering of malcontents are of no consequence?
NongKhaiKid
Around the world, well the democratic world, it's part of the function of political parties and politicians in ' opposition ' to criticise and discredit the govt but in LoS it's a criminal offence ! Says so much.
Chang_paarp
It is a conflict of job descriptions. The government goes a good job of discrediting itself and does not need help from former politicians who have moved to "inactive posts".

Traveling Sailor
It is a conflict of job descriptions. The government goes a good job of discrediting itself and does not need help from former politicians who have moved to "inactive posts". So true. All one has to do is read either of the two leading English language Thai newspapers, or TV, on a regular basis. The comments made by this government are usually discrediting in some respect. Enoon
The pigs are restless from being kept away from the trough... You're not seriously suggesting that the trough is currently, or will become (under the current regime) "pig free" are you? mrrizzla
The pigs are restless from being kept away from the trough... That's ok though. The 'good' pigs (and the traditional piggies) are back at their god given place at the trough.
