Difference between visa extention and stay permit extention?

Featured Replies

Hello there,

I am from Colombia, so I will apply for a 1-entry tourist visa. I understand that the visa expires after 3 months of getting it, and that my stay permit will be given upon arrival to thailand for no longer than 2 months. Also, I know that I can get an extention of the stay permit after those 2 months. The general sense of the following questions is to know how can I stay in Thailand after my initial 3 months visa expires:

1. This extention of stay permit that I mentioned above also will extend my visa itself?

2. If not, can I apply for a visa extention, rather than stay permit extention?

3. If not, is it possible to apply again for visa while being in thailand or in a neighbouring country?

I have been researching my particular case for a long time now, so I would really appreciate your responses.

Thanks in advance! biggrin.png

Visa are not extended. Only a permit to stay can be extended.

The 3 month validity of the visa is only the amount of time you can use the visa for entry it is not the amount of time you can be in the county.

You will get a 60 day entry that can be extended for 30 days at an immigration office.

You can apply for another single entry tourist visa at a embassy or consulate in a nearby country.

Three questions:

1. Does 30 days start ticking from day you obtain extension or is it added to the 60 days?

2. how long before 60 days expire can you obtain extension

3. What is required? Passport, cash for extension, form to fill in? My e-ticket is currently based on 60 day permission but will change when I have extension.

1. The 30 days start at the end of the 60 day entry.

2. You can apply a couple of weeks early at most immigration offices.

3. You will need a completed TM7 form with a 4 X 6 cm photo attached to it. Copies of your passport photo page, visa, entry/permit to stay stamp and TM6 departure card. The fee is 1900 baht. You will not need to show your ticket.

Thanks Joe for your quick and concise reply.
