hi to all forum members, ive been comin to samui for 3 years and have fell proper in love with the place,so much so that me and the wife..thai..have bought a house...we have lived in it for a month at a time when ever were over...im considering moving over full time soon, what worrys me is the amount of murders happening.....

it is true to say, that unless involved in crime or trouble,us normal people should be fine.my mate left the uk last year and is a diving instructor on samui, some of his stories are shocking, yet as he says,if you stay clear, you should be fine......

ive gotta find a job in samui, any ideas???

Hello Meatgrowler

Welcome to Thaivisa.com forum.

I know lots of people who live on Samui, who have never had any trouble at all,

Personal experience has taught me to avoid areas of Chaweng (Solo Bar in particular) at night, where there has been alot of gun crime.

Like you say if you keep your nose clean and dont get involved in anything that you should not be , then I think you will be relatively safe.

Good luck

Welcome meatgrowler, Samui is a good place to live, whatever you hear. Trouble finds those who look for it!

Safe as houses my friend.

I don't know what part of UK you're from, but compared with walking about/taking public transport late at night in any given UK city, Samui is a walk in the park.

You'll love it.

Just be careful not to get a "Samui Tattoo" which i have and numerous people worldwide are proud of.....

Hi Meatgrowler... welcome to here...

I have been living and working on Samui for about ten years now.

Sure, Samui has a very black underbelly. Same as back home for me in Melb. Aussie.

Samui is very, very safe for normal folks who don't want no trubbles.... no worries mate!

Ten years and only once I got punched in the face, my fault in fact, sort of asked for it.

It was my missus anyway so it don't count, eh? :o

I remember in Melbourne it was not safe to walk around at night in the city alone.

It is safe to walk anywhere on Samui, anytime. If you are cool, it is cool.

Mind you, if you want some trubble then Samui sure can dish it out.

Come, stay here, enjoy Samui's unique problems and live in peace (not to mention Thailand's probs, eh?)

cheerz

The other types of scars are normally related to domestics (and generally because one or the other partner is playing around) , I know of 4 guys in the last month with damage from their partners, one of them spent 2 days in hospital due to blood loss from his scrotum which had been nearly detached by his partner (while he was in hospital she cleaned out his bank accounts,), one guy had scratches all over his body including a black eye (plus 2 of his mates also got damaged for assisting him by the lady who threw a jealous rage because he liked to say hello to too many people in the bars), one guy had his motorbike smashed through a restaurant wall by his girlfriend driving his rented suzuki jeep (this was after she had trashed the house) and the last one was a guy with teeth marks around his eye socket - lucky she did not get a full grip or else he might not have been able to see (he started out saying it was a bike accident but the on close inspection it was obviously teeth marks).

other than that Samui is generally a quiet place and no more violent than anywhere else in Thailand.
