PATTAYA -- In the early hours of Friday, a team lead by Banglamung District Licensing Officers conducted checks on bars and restaurants in the South Pattaya area to ensure they were complying with their operating licenses.

The team were joined by Army personnel and Customs officers and began the night on Walking Street. They concentrated their efforts on the Marine Plaza area and were looking for any venue selling Shisha which is not permitted. The team found no venues breaking any laws in relation to the sale of Shisha so moved on to Pattaya Beach Road.

Be interesting to see the CCTV footage from outside RGP for every night in the past week...

A surprise visit by the army should soon sort them out, 50% discount on the fine for the first to name the mole down at Soi 9.

can anyone here please shed some light on how easy/difficult it is to obtain the proper licenses for bars/restaurants, for example for playing music and serving alcohol after midnight?

what about late night opening?

It's easy and also cheap. But similar to getting a motorbike license, it doesn't seem to be a priority for a whole lot of locals. Notably, licenses are typically issued and renewed at the start of each year so some places may have simply forgotten to renew them, hence the higher frequency of checks in January to catch the lazy ones. Easy money.

do you speak from experience?

I was told the contrary, especially about licenses to open late and about hotel licenses.

Miraculously the cocktail vans were "gone" cheesy.gif which had been there nightly for months.

What about the taxi parking on the red / white "no parking" strips outside RGP ?

What about the vendors parading their "wares" on the ground outside RGP ?

Usual farcical nonsense.

I don't think there are any 'late licenses' as such since the nationwide licensing hours for selling alcohol are set in stone and bars and eateries licenses state these hours. I would imagine that there's a local bobby who can advise on how to get around this. It does cost money and you know they love to get something for nothing here... until they get 'caught'.

I am not sure about a hotel license. Do you mean a license to operate a hotel or a more specifically a license to allow the residents to drink late? Pretty sure that the license has the same hours of prohibition but hotels manage to work around the issue with the help of the local constabulary. Maybe a hotel owner member can advise precisely.

Experience? Mrs NL has a (really, really good) licensed restaurant.
