Kanchanaburi Visa run

Featured Replies

Hi does anyone have a phone number for the Kanchanaburi border crossing as I have been told it can be closed some months. thanks.

open at the moment.

but a thai visa is required, no exempt entries

Just tried yesterday. Failed . It's open but the Thai dude was crazy there. Yelled at me for not sure what reason. But what he was saying I think is I had to stay 1 night in Myanmar. But there is no guesthouse on the Myanmar side unless you pay 800 baht n four hours to go to dawai. Crazy. I also heard of this border turning down two teachers from returning so they had to go to yangoon n fly in. But I've heard many first hand accounts of this being an easy visa run place. I decided to cross the country n hit poipet. Mostly because that guy freaked me out. I was quiet n gentle the whole time n he acted like Mussolini. My friend today said he was probably just drunk if it was late in the day. Poor guy.

What sort of Visa do you have?

The kind you get extended in bkk for thirty days....what's the name of that? The guy kept yelling how I have no visa and am illegal. "Must get visa!!!" He kept yelling. But I have til Wednesday to get out. Off to poipet now BTW... Rainy in bkk.

It seems you have a visa exempt entry that you got on arrival and was attempting to get another one. They will only allow you to cross if you have a valid visa for Thailand to use for re-entry.

people sailing close to the wind, with no idea of visa requirements.

There was a western guy 'working' there that helped with paperwork, i think he was from belguim.

David, As I understand the border at Phu Nam Ron will not allow you make an in/out crossing unless you have a proper visa.
Not the 30 day visa exempt you get when you arrive at BKK without a visa, but an actual visa you applied for at a Thai Embassy.

Far from being drunk, the "poor guy" did you a favour.
He could have let you exit Thailand, but you probably wouldn't have been able to re-enter without going to Yangon and getting a flight back in, or at least staying in Myanmar for a short period.

Good luck with your trip to P
oipet - But you'd be well advised to do some proper research before you attempt a "visa run". back to back visa exemptions are not always given..

wise up and do some research.

I was there 10 days ago. Non-immigrant "O". No problem. Easy Visa run place indeed..
