how to renew childs thai passport in uk

Featured Replies

Can anyone pls help.

My son has duel nationality and his that passport has expired but wishes to visit his mum in Thailand later in the year.

Is it possible to renew his Thai passport with only his dad present as the website states both parents must be present.

Thank you

As you say the embassy says under 20 and both parents must be present.

I assume he has a British passport,in which case he could travel on that, leave the UK on his British passport and enter Thailand on the expired one and then renew his Thai passport in Thailand,1 day to renew and a couple of days waiting for the new passport through the post.

Although the embassy website states both parents need to be present they should accept the mothers consent that has been notarized by an Amphoe.

There are different requirements to aptly for it whether you are married or not, See: http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/78

Consent form is here for download: http://www.consular.go.th/main/contents/files/services-20120630-195748-510034.pdf

The embassy requirements are different than those shown on the MFA website.http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/1415/21482-e-Passport-Application-for-Thai-Nationals-Living-A.html

Failing that call them and ask what is required stating your personal circumstances,as above it seems a bit much that both parents need to be there, but stranger things have happened.

Thank you all for your replies.Have called them and they require both parents.

Looks like it's easier to travel on a UK passport but as my son wishes to stay 6/7 weeks can what is the best way so that he doesn't need a visa run?

If your son can prove he is Thai he can obtain a one year extension of stay at an immigration office.
