British man Kyle Campbell, 32, has died in Thailand days before he was due to marry his fiancee, Kannika Masasai, his family said.

The plumber from Westhoughton, Bolton, died in his sleep in the early hours of July 30 after being involved in a motorbike crash, on a holiday island, that left him with a head injury. He had travelled to Thailand to marry Kannika, his partner of two-and-a-half years. The family said he had travelled often to meet Kannika during that time.

Family raise concerns over treatment

Mr Campbell was taken to hospital after the crash, where relatives said he received treatment before being discharged only hours after the collision.

His family say doctors gave him the all-clear but advised that he return the following day so he could travel to the mainland for further treatment. The family were informed of his death in the early hours of July 30.

Relatives have described the standard of medical care he received as "inadequate". In a statement on a JustGiving fundraising page, Mr Campbell's cousin, Dianne Fisher, said the family had since been told his care was inadequate and that he later died as a result of his injuries. The family gave no further details of where the crash occurred or the hospital involved.

"His death has devastated everyone who knew and loved him," she wrote.

Kannika, who has been left grieving alongside Mr Campbell's 12-year-old son, paid tribute to her fiance.

"Death takes away the body but love remains, rest in peace my love, and you will always be in my heart," she said.

"I will keep you in my best memories forever my love."

Repatriation costs and travel concerns

The family has launched a JustGiving appeal with a GBP10,000 target, which was quickly reached, to help meet the cost of returning Mr Campbell's body to the UK, his funeral and other unexpected expenses.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Thailand."

No mention anywhere I note including Mirror & Sun papers of which 'holiday island' -- only that the medical attention received on the 'holiday island' was "inadequate"

Photo looks like Phi Phi, so I'll guess he was staying in Phuket or Kho Lanta.

Can't see why they want his body back, wouldn't ashes be sufficient?

At least he was having a good time when he died.

When will the UK government ban it's own to travel without proper travel health or accident insurance ? Because at this rate of all the gofundme's for the brits, at one point countries will ban them from entry if they cannot prove having adequate insurance, like most of the west europeans have compulsory by law. I would think that the best insured and often even over-insured would be the citizens from Switzerland.

How would "proper travel health or accident insurance" have helped this lad other than maybe cover the cost of sending the body home ?

Reality is there is not enough cost to the UK government to justify forcing insurance, more so it is on the hosting countries, and the success of goFundMe efforts seems to make that redundant. In this case it is more about the quality of the treatment that perhaps failed to check for more serious injury.,,

Sad story, but wearing helmets??? If he had a helmet, maybe he was still alive. Everybody knows also in the UK and the rest of the world. and Thailand has very very dangerous roads.
