As an experienced overstayer, I would suggest you try to look like a normal tourist when out and about if you are on overstay. I suggest wearing a camera to add to the tourist effect. Don't ride around on motorbikes(I always walked everywhere). And certainly don't book into hotels as they sometimes request your passport. Also, have a Thai friend book you into an apartment/condo. I overstayed my visa for 5 years. I don't think I would have been ever caught because I stayed in my room most days. Could have been the key to my "success".
