Visa

Hi,

I am writing to you to see if anyone can assist me , I am married to a Thai lady

in Australia and we have a 2 year old daughter who has an Australian and

also Thai birth certificate and we wish to go back to Thailand and settle

down there. My problem is that I am wondering how I will be able to stay

there. I have seen that I can obtain a non- immigrant O visa which the money

will be no problem but we would like to buy a house there as well and I am

wondering if I have to show the Thai government every year my bank

statements to show that I still have 400,000 baht in the bank?

I was going to try to teach English but I dont hold a degree but do have

TESOL certification, do you think that maybe I would be able to obtain a work

visa?

Thank you

Unfortunately, you can no longer get an annual extension of stay for support of Thai wife and/or child with 400K in the bank. The new rules that took effect on 1 October 2006 require a monthly income of 40K per month. This can be income earned by the husband, the wife, or a combination of both.

What would be required for the Thai wife to show to proove she is earning 40k per month so the husband could get an extension based on marriage?

I guess a farang would need to show a work permit with other doccuments if he was working here, but I guess Thais would have other things to show they are earning the money..............................?

I believe tax payments, for last 3 months, is the key factor.

The underlined text “new rules” in my earlier post is a link to the new rules. Left-click on it and you will be brought directly to these rules. What you want is in paragraph 7.17

evidences of personal income of either party or both that shows the total income of both parties not less than 40,000 Baht per month, such as the evidence of the personal income tax filing and the receipt, evidence of being a pensioner, credentials of receiving the interest of the saving money, or the evidences of having other income from other related organizations.

(It’s been a long line since I last spoon-fed a baby)

Thanks for your reply maestro, that has cleared a few things up for me.

Does the income have to be shown coming into a Thai bank? Or can I prove that I have more than the required amount being earned in the UK?
