FIFO specialists work permit.

Featured Replies

Ok I know everyone has to have work permit and as a specialist consultant on short term contract I probably have enough time to organise one, just.

But i wonder about specialists like engineers that might have to fly in on just 24 or 48 hrs notice to fix sophisticated machinery that is costing millions sitting idle. How are they covered?

A 15 day emergency work permit can be applied for and should be issued within 1 working day.

WP10 application form is here. http://wp.doe.go.th/wp/images/form/Form_tt10.pdf

To paraphrase a great Roman Philosopher and Gerneral.....dont always believe eveything you read as fact

FIFO specialists

To me, FIFO means "First in, first out", ie an "inventory accounting in which the oldest items (those first acquired) are assumed to be the first sold" (http://www.freethesaurus.com/First+in%2c+first+out)

What meaning did you intend for FIFO in your topic title?

Fly in Fly Out , a term generally used in mining and the oil & gas industry but not confined To

Thank you. Is that like a regular rotation, for example three weeks on the job, three weeks off for rest and recreation, or is is it a specialised engineer flying in for urgent repairs of equipment so that everybody else can get on with their jobs?

Wrong use of the term FIFO in the context of the OP. The term is predominantly applicable to the energy industry with few exceptions. Workers are typically on fixed rotations. Otherwise tourists would qualify to use the term.

As ubonjoe stated, an emergency visa is available for consultants, engineers or other specialists to come in and repair something that can't be sorted locally or do specialised work that no locals can do. I recall several years ago that a Korean offshore service company had a couple of their technicians arrested at Sattahip because they did not have ANY visas. Checks are even more stringent now.

Thanks Ubonjoe for that information and the link.

My apologises for not defining the acronym FIFO. "Fly in, Fly out" is correct but I was thinking of unscheduled emergency situations rather than rostered rotation.
