Was told there is a shop in Chumpon that has a good cheese selection, also some western goods. Anyone familiar with it and knows where it is? We are in Bang Saphan so closer than Hua Hin

Thanks!

I actually meant to write a separate thread about it. Will do so shortly. But there is a shop called PSP Food Supply. They are about 7Km or so from Chumphon Town. They are not quite on the level as Villa Market et al, but they are supposed to be as close as they get. Actually the same parent company stocks Koh Samui and Koh Tao, and the Chumphon office was something they worked out as sort of a hub between Bangkok to store stuff.

That location has been open 3 years, and I just visited it for the first time last week or so. I bumped into another foreigner who has been in Chumphon for 10 years and just recently heard about it. It is not on any major streets, and they did not create a website. So it's largely word of mouth.

If you are coming from Hua Hin or north of Chumphon on Hwy 4 South, instead of going all the way to Chumphon Town (hwy 327) which is an extra 50KM+ and traffic, you can cut through Pathio at Tae Sae (Taa Sey). Make a left on Hwy 3180 (traffic light) which takes you all the way to Chumphon Town, passing through Saphli Sub-District (Thung Wua Laen Beach), and you can then go to the Food Supply shop before the town. Avoid taking Hwy 3201, unless you want to go to Chumphon Airport or Pathio Train Station. I went ahead and added the major paths to get to PSP. They are near the canal that is used for canoe races every year. You would never suspect a shop like that to be there unless someone told you or you just so happen to bump into it.

The catalog is quite thick, but it is mostly an alphabetized price list. Best to still go to the shop, especially with photos or logos of what you want if you have an exact brand name. They have a meat grinder/slicer on site, so you should be able to get it sliced. A friend at one of the cafes orders the Parmesan cheese whole (like 200g block or so), stores it in his freezer, and then grates it to order for his customers. Much more fresh than the one in Makro.
