I just received a new passport (U.S) and took it and my old passport to immigration (Jomtien) to have the Visa/Extension and Multiple Re-Entry Permit stamps transferred to the new passport. The Visa/Extension stamp was transferred to the new passport, but not the Re-Entry Permit stamp. Do I need to go back to Jomtien again to get the Re-Entry Permit stamp transferred, or can I just bring both passports with me the next time I travel?

Update. Just returned from the Philippines on Monday. Immigration officer had the desk refused to accept the re-entry permit in the old passport. A supervisor was called to the desk and she approved the use of the re-entry permit. All good in the end, but provided for some anxious moments.

Hi kimchibob,

Thanks for the update. I have a question perhaps you can enlighten me. Does a new passport mean that the previous tourist visas or visa exemptions are "forgotten" or do the immigration still keep track of them in their system?

HAve done two new passports in Thailand. Both times the reentry permit was transferred to new one. Took 2 full pages for new stamps. You should go to immigration and get it fixed.

I'm from the U.S and due for a new one soon..not expiring, but getting full.

I am curious, what does a new one cost now?

About 140$ off the top of my head. 52 pgs.

Got mine a year and a half ago while here.

The tourist visa themselves go away and will make it easier to get more. But all entries, departures and etc will be linked to your new passport in immigration's database.
