Selling price of consumable items inspected ahead of Chinese New Year

BANGKOK, 2 February 2016 (NNT) – Officials have inspected the retail price of groceries prior to the Chinese New Year festival, to prevent unrealistic pricings and ensuring a sufficient supply of products, says the DIT chief.

The Department of Internal Trade’s (DIT) Director-General Wiboonlasana Ruamraksa has said regarding the price inspection of consumable products ahead of Chinese New Year festivities, that the DIT has surveyed markets across Thailand regarding basic items such as pork, chicken, eggs, and vegetables.

She said the price of some items had increased, but remains in relation to market demand. The central market will be working to prevent price distortion through the act of distributing products into a specific area where demand is high.

The public are assured that the amount of items in need for Chinese New Year celebrations will be sufficient this year, and changes pricing will be more stable next week once the market is restocked.

The public can report any overpriced sale of groceries or insufficient supply to the DIT's 1569 Hotline.

"The public can report any overpriced sale of groceries or insufficient supply to the DIT's 1569 Hotline."

And they will be ignored. Another long held tradition.

The 'government' should have absolutely no say in market forces.

You must be joking.

Then all the taxi's would 10-fould their prices for all tourists...even more then in Phuket.
