Ok, 2 1/2 years ago hubby & I moved from samui after 7+ years living there. As a long term resident I rarely went to any kind of tourist attraction & bar taking people to heavens garden & a couple of special temples didn't do anything else.

So... in a couple of weeks we go back to visit old friends & I thought it would be fun to do super touristy things, we have only 5 days & being 3 months preggers can't hack anything too adventurous but has anyone got suggestions for really cheesy/touristy attractions on Samui?

:o:D

big buddha's the obvious one.......

reptile farm, waterfalls, chaweng beach lookout...

big buddhas a given, we went there often to make offerings & talk to the old monks, the looks outs have been done too. The reptile farms a good one, is that near the airport? Should have mentioned the waterfalls in the op, we all used to go for picknicks for years.

Was thinking more of the snake/reptile stuff. Totally naf but touristy. Am going to get a photo with that tiger too :o

Hi, hope you have a nice return visit.

Samui Snake Farm, it is down south on the road that goes from ring road south of Nathon around past the turn off to Taling Ngam. Go straight to large intersection where road goes left to Thong Kruut. Samui Snake Farm is just there.

Samui Crocodile farm/park/whatever. Near airport, off airport road.

Angthong Marine National Park tour, leave Nathon in large tour boat, hang out at the park out on the islands there, just swim and relax or do the big walk up to the green lake on top of one island there. They usually load kayaks so a bit of a paddle is in order.

Wat Kinaram, south of Nathon on main ring road. Cool mummified monk to have photo taken with.

Elephant Trekking. Any road going up to any of the waterfalls on the west coast, I think they all have elephants. Good fun, relaxing, great photo op.

Quad Motorcycle Tours. Down south, near Ban Bang Khao. Can do slow tour, take it easy, pertty safe, plenty fun riding along beach.

Tour of the newly renovated Tesco/Lotus. Has cinema, bowling lanes, masses of restaurants, huge food court, new shops, coffee lounges, younameit.

Wat Plai Leam, up past Big Buddha Beach, big lake with zillions of fish. Buy some fish food, feed the fish, they go utterly nutz.

Canopy Adventures. Treetop cable tour somewhere around Maenam I think. Never been but it looks good. You start up high and go down the hillside way up in the trees on a cable harness thingy.

Butterfly Farm? Laem Set.

That is about all I can think of off hand.

Have a good touristy time then, eh?

Cheers

Go Kart, shooting range, horse back riding, mini golf, bungee (especially for a 3 month preggers person).

What about the aquarium, close to the butterfly Park, think they have tigers too.

They have Tigers, leopards, sea lions and birds as well as the fish. I take my children there at least once a month and in fact went there today. It is rather pricy at 450b per adult and 250 per child, but I feel it it one of the better quality attractions on Samui. However do not expect it to be of high international standards as the tanks are not always that clean and the tigers cages are quite small, but yoiu can get in a cage and have a photo with a Tiger or swim with the sealions, feed the large turtles etc.

how about going to see the mumified monk, hes looks a treat in his snide raybans, also hin yai hintai, always good for a photo, last year we saw a german fall into the female genitailia at these rocks,oh dear..he was stuck and was panicking bigtime,we all got a rope and hauled him out,cut and grazed...warning here, dont go too close to the edge as its green and slimy : :

Yeah, Samuijens is right!

Down at Samui Orchid resort near Hua Thanon they have the following touristy things.

1. Bird Park and Show - tropical birds walk tightropes and talk to you :-)

2. The Tigerz - get to sit, pat and be photographed with the tigers

3. The Aquarium - half decent aquarium with plenty fish

4. The Sea Lions - get in the pool and fool around with HUGE sea lions

he he, I lived about 2 minutes down the road from |hinta hinyai for 3+ years. Have all the photos taken from different angles that make it look like your doing naughties with em. :D

Will def do the aquarium, tigers, croc farm & monkey show, never fancied elephant trekking & being preggers makes me a bit cautious of that & don't think the bungee will be a good idea in my present condition either :o But we have a pretty good idea now of other things to do. Cheers.

It is difficult though when visiting somewhere you have lived for so long, finding the time outside of catching up with friends is difficult so I will probably set asied 2 days & do everything in one big lump & od on cheesy tourist attractions :D

Everything been suggested, just make sure for the "Aquarium" to have plenty a "loose" change for tips, not only is the entry rather steep priced but after the Bird show you'll be asked to take pictures for ... a tip of course!

Take some sunflowerseeds, peanuts and fruits for the animals outside in the cages with you, as their supply is very limited and VERY expensive, 2 slices of plain toast for the price of a WHOLE loaf!!!!!!!!!!! Some Prepacked fishfood pellets.. maybe...arriving prepared..!

It's GOOD fun!

Don't know about the thing "picture with a tiger", it's quite a big cat, the handler looks smart, maybe he's under the influence of tranqualiziers for the time being... but of what use is it if your'e being mauled...!!!??? The risk iscertainly there ANY time. (just a thought or two)

And some of the beasts look quite malnourished!!!!!!!!! At least one seemed (to me) quite disturbed if not agonized by the heat, the restrictiveness of a narrow sized cage...it just looked so pityfull how this cat aimlessly walking through this cage...

And Big Buddha...Whoooooooooooaaahhhhhh! What a Show!

A 'spi-ritual' fun fare around a twelve meter high statue, and PLEASE: "donate, donate, donate, donate" Seems to me always, when ever I get there, with visitors, as a somewhat buddhist theme park, Disneyland kind a thing.

WELCOME to the greatest show on earth, ladies and gentlemen!!!

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME !!!! And PLEASE: "donate, donate, donate, donate"

Sorry, wasn't really meant to hurt anyones feelings, especially not ANY religious feelings!
