Overhaul of Pattaya Metered Taxi’s ordered by Prime Minister

Featured Replies

Its about time something was done about these thugs.

How about the Baht bus drivers, well will you start on them Mr PM?

What do you want him to do about the baht buses? Meter them? I'm quite happy with the 10 baht rate, thanks.

We're talking about taxis here, not the tourist circuit.... Baht buses will never go 2km for 60 baht and then 4 baht per additional km. That's never going to happen for any transport in Pattaya.

He did say TO Ban Chang.....how did an earlier poster get 750 baht on his overseas bought calculator? 34*4 is 136, Plus 60 is 196

Thailand calculators are different didnt you know, very different!!wink.png

biggles45.

Calculator skills and reading skills are two things you can improve while you're in a Taxi Meter.

Once you learn to use a Thai calculator it gives you a greater understanding of how Taxi Meters work, especially the ones that are controlled by actual geographical location.

It's tied into the GPS system and at a certain distance traveled from the start it can either switch off or double the figure shown on the meter.

Based on fuzzy logic it means that it can be unclear to the driver or passenger what will be the exact fare at the end of the journey.

The above is a simplified explanation but it is slightly more complicated .

Other factors are random such as time of day, drivers plans for the next few hours, fuel in the tank and how expensive the passengers clothes look.

Hope this helps.

The Army has already tried once in Phuket and failed miserably.

I remember that a couple of years ago. That does not

bode well for Thailand if it is invaded. So if the army

cannot take on the Phuket taxi mafia and win, what chance

would they have in Laos invaded Thailand ???

Actually they did a great job the problem is the local authorities were asked to take over the roll to make sure they didn't return to many locations but as usual the money started to flow and locations given back.

If the army cleared up the problem, then, entrusted the very people responsible for the mess to clean up that mess; then who's fault is it, other than the Army.

So let's say taxi to Ban Chang, approx. 36Km, so 60 + (34x4) = 196 Baht, yeah right!!

Strange figures.

Using the calculator I bought in Patts

60 + ( 34x4 ) = 750.

You obviously used one bought overseas.

In Bangkok a ride like that would cost 300-360 bt (about depending on traffic)

Not arguing with u KB!! Your right in a way so let's say they failed 'miserably' 2 to realise they may have to station an officer at every taxi/Tuk Tuk stand 'period' due to the spineless corrupt local authorities including the bib... That's probably a fairer statement you you say?.

Yup. Definitely.
