Secretariat of House of Representatives organizes project to promote citizenship

BANGKOK, 11 February 2016 (NNT) – The Secretariat of the House of Representatives has organized a project to promote the benefits of citizenship under the constitutional democracy.

The launch of the project is set for February 11 at Ubon Buri Resort in Ubon Ratchathani Province; it's to offer knowledge, information and understanding about rights, freedoms, duties and the responsibilities of people living under the rule of a constitutional democracy.

The Secretariat of the House of the Representatives has anticipated the effect of the project, which will run for two days, and is aimed particularly at residents of the northeastern region.

It is also hoped that participating residents will realize the significance of being citizens of Thailand and ASEAN.

During the two-day event, participants will listen to lectures which include “Citizens under Democratic Rule and the Sustainable Reform of the Nation” and “Citizens and the Steering of the ASEAN Community after 2015” as well as a seminar that is entitled “Citizens and their Participation in National Reform”.

There will also be other activities to highlight the objectives of the project and to promote unity and reconciliation.

This gab fest is to promote the benefits of being a Thai citizen to Thai citizens, not the benefits of becoming a Thai citizen.

They don't want those "foreign aliens" becoming Thai citizens.

Citizens Under Democratic Rule, ok but when ?

So telling Thai people they are Thai. Some might not know.

Promoting xenophobia.

We numma one!

Thai Rak Thai just remember that and obey your superiors

Does this apply to all those whose ancestors live here for hundreds of years and are refused to hold a Thai citizenship?

I think you've missed the point guys. It's nothing to do with foreigners who would like Thai citizenship but aren't wualified to apply. It's about the draft constitution which sims to reduce rights of existing Thai citizens, e.g. Community rights to block environmentally unfriendly projects, the right for individuals to sue govt agencies in the Admin Court will be deleted and National Human Rights Commission which is already pitiful will be totally emasculated. The idea is to tell Thais to be happy with what they've got left and not make trouble.

mass attitude adjustment in disguise.

How can you have a seminar on "Citizens under Democratic Rule" in Thailand?

promote the benefits of citizenship under the constitutional democracy.

They might start with the Muslim Malay-Thais in the South. Some don't seem to fully appreciate the benefits under Thailand's Buddhist constitutional democracy.

Geobbels would be proud.

It's almost the same as the DDR. Democratic Deustchland Republic or the DPRK, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, or the DRC Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Well put. Even abhisit has come out on record (see the BP) as saying that this constitution has curtailed rights and liberties and could not compare to the 2007 charter.

Whether or not he understands (or accepts) the irony of his "stand", bearing in mind he was one of the main movers beyond provoking the situation Thailand now finds itself in, is a moot point however.

A very point but it is also unclear who represents the majority of ethnic Thai and ethnic Lao Buddhists. Nearly all the politicians are Chinese from the exploitative merchant class. The voters take their money at election time as it's the only thing they feel they can get out of it.
