Luang Prabang

Featured Replies

Wife and I plan to visit Luang Prabang the first week of April for maybe a week. We were there (Luang Prabang) over a year ago for several days so this visit we are thinking of traveling outside the city for a couple days. Any suggestions for a couple day trip outside LP?

As I remember, there are several nice trips to the huge waterfalls, boat trips up the river and van trips to nearby places of interest. Ask around when you get there.

Beware astronomically high hotel prices in LP. Have a good look at Booking.com or Agoda before you commit. Lao used to be dirt cheap as well as very nice. But high inflation and an exchange rate pegged to the US$ has turned it into one of SE Asia's most expensive destinations, second only to Singapore by some measures. I was in Udon last week. I'd never seen so many Lao cars inside Thailand. The Central Mall parking structure was full of them. The owners of all those Porsches and Lexus SUVs probably thought they were getting bargains.

Thanks. We kind of did that on our last trip. Was thinking more of something like a couple day trip somewhere.

if u have time

head to Phonsavan ( plain of Jars) its about a 4 hour drive an plenty of hotels to stay,

well worth seeing sites, 1, 2 and 3

am sure there are bus's ( 6 hours) there as well

Lunag Namtha is a 6 hour drive ( so most likely 8-10 by bus) great area to trek from

and 90 minutes north of there is Muang Sing which has a great market with lots of Hill tribe people coming out of the villages to sell
