So, going by your logic, only people living in Thailand should have opinions on this board . . . which would leave out . . . . you? (and Donz of course :o )

Well now they're not really the same thing, are they? On one hand we're talking about the importation of a food item into a country where no one eats it. On the other hand you're talking about excluding people from the board, namely me, because I don't live there even though my wife is from there, I spend lots and lots of time there and I own property there.

Now you tell me, is that the same thing? :D

Exactly my point. Being allowed to have an opinion about something that doesn't directly affect you is unrestricted. How valid this opinion is, is another thing.

I want to know why the importation of a food item into America wants to be discussed by people on a Thai web forum that don't live in America? There is just no connection.

They might marry a yank .... or visit there .... or own property .... :D

Maybe due to the Thai FDA following many US FDA decisions before :o

Ok, that's a good answer! If this were true, then I can understand wanting to know. Thank you. :D

That's easy Trip. It's just another feeble attempt to take a poke at Americans,

but you knew that.

However, as a matter of goodwill towards my Aussie friends ( do I have any Aussie friends? Im not sure I will have to think about it. ) I will go to Kraft world HQ. about 10 miles down the road in Glenview, Il and protest.

There, it's all better.

Careful ..... if you succeed then we'll have another reason to comment on a stupid decision in the US and Trip will have a new reason to whinge!

Ok, here's a connection. We all complain about particular foodstuffs we cannot get here, but at least none of them are banned. (Fritos corn chips! Polish dill pickles!) We could, in theory, have them if we could get a distributor to import them.

I think the only reason for any possible ban is that folate is controlled by the FDA, much like a medication, or food coloring, and foods containing it need to have FDA approval. Perhaps that US approval has not been acquired. Perhaps it is not necessary in Australia to get governmental agency approval to add vitamins to a food.

Ok, so it's off-topic, but I knew it would be of interest to at least a few, and add some life to the forum.

Phew, it looks like the Thai FDA won’t need to ban the food of the gods.

Authorities probe Vegemite ban reports

Tuesday Oct 24 13:32 AEST

Mystified Australian authorities have launched an investigation into reports Vegemite has been banned from entering the United States.

Supermarkets in the US continue to stock Vegemite and have no plans to remove Australia's iconic breakfast spread from their shelves.

Adding to the confusion, a spokesperson from the Australian embassy in Washington DC said US officials had recently said they had no concerns about Vegemite…………………………………………………..

.......Vegemite is made in Australia by US-based Kraft Foods Inc.

Story continued here http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=155019

To all you moaners and whingers complaining about your horsesh!t smelling food being banned, here is your answer. Khall had it wrong. There you go, can't moan about THAT now at least :o

  • 1 year later...
I'm not seeing how this is Thailand related in anyway.

Topic moved to farang pub since it seems to be more ridiculous than food oriented :o

Good decision, sbk. If you have read the last 3 pages, I am sure you will see that all traces of ridicule have have now been removed from this thread by our own resident food specialist panel and it can now be returned to where it came from.
