Su_ngai Kolok Customs point collected higher-than-targeted customs for 2006

The Su_ngai Kolok (สุไหงโก-ลก) Customs point in Narathiwat had been able to collect higher-than-targeted customs for Year 2006, with processed wood from Malaysia still topping the list.

Mr. Somyot Sinthaworn (สมยศ สินถาวร), in charge of the Su_ngai Kolok Customs point, said the customs point was able to collect 33.4 million baht of import tariffs. This exceeds the target of 31.4 million baht set by the Customs Department. He is also confident that tax collection in 2007 would be along the same standard and increase slightly in value.

In addition to processed wood, fresh and dried coconuts were also imported prominently from Malaysia and Indonesia.

Mr. Somyot said processed wood tops the list of imports of highest value, followed by biscuits and light bulbs. The latter two items were goods that fall under the AFTA free trade agreement, which limits duties to no more than 5%.

Salted cow and buffalo hides are also exempted from duties due to their nature of being raw materials that would be further processed in Thailand and create added value.
