The highlights of their demand are endorsement of Somdet Chuang, the acting supreme patriarch, as the supreme patriarch and making Buddhism national religion and writing it in the constitution. The other points of demand include non-interference by government agencies with monastic affairs and state agencies must show respect to the Sangha Supreme Council.

If the draft of the new constitution has not yet been finalised, this may be the time to include a section declaring an absolute and total separation between the state and religious institutions. This will put Buddhist temples and other Buddhist organisation on the same level as any other juristic person and buddhist monks nuns and on the same level as any other natural person, subject to the same laws and regulations, without any other interference by government agencies. No special treatment of show of respect by government agencies.
