Nok Air sacks a pilot and suspends two other pilots for two weeks

BANGKOK: -- A pilot of Nok Air airline was sacked and two other pilots were suspended from work for a week following a protest by a group of pilots on Sunday which forced the airline to cancel nine domestic flights resulting to passengers being stranded at Don Meuang international airport.

The company held a meeting on Monday to discuss the pilots’ protest on Sunday and decided to terminate the employment of Mr Sanit Kongpetch, a pilot and manager of the pilot’s standard division, without any financial compensation after faulting him of committing serious offence against the company.

Two pilots were suspended from work for one week from Monday until February 22 and seven other pilots, including those in management level, have been placed under investigation.

Meanwhile, the Transport Ministry ordered Nok Air to report to the ministry within three days the problem which led to the cancellation of flights.

Deputy Transport Minister Omsin Chivapruek held a meeting with representatives of 13 airlines on Monday to discuss the pilots’ protest at Nok Air as a precaution against a repeat of such an incident.

Nok Air executives did not attend the meeting as they were busy dealing with their own internal problem with their pilots.

some serious stuff going on there, as yet we have not heard what exactly they were disputing about, very obviously something serious, I wonder if they have the (deleted) to take them on or is this busted.........if it is a just cause then they know what they must do

Serious alright. The jobs of some pilots were under threat because they were not up to scratch. The strike was preemptive.

I wonder if it was simply a matter of wanting more money, or if there are safety concerns.

IT was quoted that the pilots also had executive roles within the company. The company was removing those executive roles to enable it to introduce better safety and general standards. The pilots would then just be pilots. I'm guessing there were some lucrative bonuses to be lost!

I wonder if it was simply a matter of wanting more money, or if there are safety concerns.

I guess your aware that just two weeks ago Nok scored 2/7 on an international safety survey. All of the worlds best airlines scored 7/7 or 6/7.

Another possibility is that the management team is crxx.

They din't attend an industry meeting yesterday because they were trying to fix their problems. There's a flag right away. They should have the capability to do both.

How many low cost airlines scored over 5?

It seems the pilots who had inspection roles did not meet the requirements published a few days ago. They may have been pilots but they apparently were not qualified to be inspectors.

,Nok scored 2/7, Thai Air Asia, Bangkok Airlines and Orient Thai scored 3/7., Thai International, Thai smile and Thai Lion Air scored 4/7

Well, well, well..... finally someone got sacked and not moved to inactive position. Oh sorry, NokAir is not government and actually doing the right thing.

Until the problem is explained and not whispering in corridors reporting, we will never know , however the flying public are entitled to know what the problem was and what is being done to address this problem and it is remiss of the reporting article, not to mention this fact. If there is a problem within Nok Air, if it is a safety issue the DCA is obligated to tell the public not hide the truth..............................................................coffee1.gif .

Forgive me, but does the media and the company seem to be going to great lengths to avoid explaining what it was the pilots were actually protesting?

i cant recall anything but obfuscating language in the other news articles

Neither the company nor the public can tell the facts because of Thailand's defamation laws.

Note to self, scrap nok air as an alternative airline. Sacking people because they were on strike is not the way a responsible company should behave.

I think they meant the headline to read :Nok Air Grounds A Pilot... Sacking is when the girl you are boinking is coyote ugly...

... Two pilots were suspended from work for one week from Monday until February 22 ...

A bit of a discrepancy with the headline:

"Nok Air sacks a pilot and suspends two other pilots for two weeks"
